We conducted an implementation experiment aimed at expanding the auditory and visual recognition capabilities of the emotional recognition personal robot “Pepper” (SoftBank Corp.) and exploring the potential of machine learning. In the project, using Kinect and the Pepper-specific programming software “Choregraphe,” we focused on three keywords: ① expansion of recognition capabilities, ② machine learning, and ③ interaction. Through these, we successfully achieved several experiments such as recognizing and coordinating human behavior patterns and facilitating interaction between artificial intelligences. Additionally, by utilizing devices such as “Hue” (Philips Corp.), which allows for light color adjustment and on/off control in LAN environments, and directional microphones, we explored the potential for interaction with environments interfaced by artificial intelligence. The project video includes scenes of Peppers engaging in “riddle-solving” and experiments conducted by members of the noiz group. <Pepper Expansion Experiment by noiz Members, 2016>
